Ah Colbert funniness. I think I will vote for him for president. His brand of funny is the type I wanna buy. Wait...
Oh and damn that Stephanie Meyer thinking she can get away with writing another book. Perhaps she'll just rewrite the fourth book and make it actually a decent read. :-P
whoa, whoa, whoa! there are things i will need to look up in this book? our list of reasons not to read a book for book club should include: 1 - nothing over 300 pages 2 - no footnotes 3 - no subtitles (oh, sorry, thats Heroes); no foreign words that require a cheat sheet from Mary 4 - no words I have to look up (and when I say 'I', I mean me)
I guess that means you are not going to read it b/c It has all those things. I didn't know. Everybody else can ignore the rest if they want to go into the book blindly.
The Spanish is basically just a bunch of insults and there are a bunch of scifi references - LOTR, comics, anime, that you don't really have to know to understand the message.
On the plus side - very fast read - 1/2 days max, footnotes are interesting, and tell history of Trujillo- not nearly as annoying or pervasive as Bartimeaus.
I'm going to read it - i already bought it and am looking forward to it. Thats funny that it is all those things...I'm finishing up the last Jane Austen book I had lingering and left to read - Mansfield Park. I've been reading Austen since last winter and have loved them all - and Fanny Price does not disappoint. Emma has been my favorite so far, but Mansfielf Park is right up there in the top three. I put Rushdie aside to complete my Austen romp.
I'm glad I didn't scare you off by opening my big mouth. I at least learned that the DR shares an island with Haiti - where was I during geography class?
Did you get to watch the Jane Austen month on PBS this summer? Alas, no Colin Firth, but still good.
I did watch the PBS Jane Austen special showings - missed a few though. I plan on a weekend of Jane when it gets cold and rainy just to make sure I get them all in.
