November meeting

The winner is The Gathering by Anne Enright, the winner of the 2007 Booker Prize. We are switching to Katherine's place on Saturday the 22nd. If you've got kittie allergies, I'll bring the Zyrtec. I'll send a separate email to all of you in a few weeks with the address and her phone number. Someone be sure to remind me.

I'm contemplating making pumpkin pie for this gathering. We're approaching that 2 month window where I occasionally bake...

oh, delicious! i will bring whatever I can pick up at the store on the way there - perhaps a beverage for those that are so inclined to imbibe.
I'll be starting The Gathering tomorrow (we are off for Veterans Day) and am looking forward to spending the better part of my day reading it.
I have a few suggestions for the next book if anyone is bored and wants to read up on them (I will bring the books with me to the meeting):
Mountain Beyond Mountains - T. Kidder
Water for Elephans - S. Gruen (many of you may have read it already and it is 350 pages...)
The Alchemist - P. Coelho (again, many of you may have read it already, but its short)
I had three other selections, but when they arrived at my house, I realized that they were 500+ pages - 2 were 700+ pages. here they are, just in case someone is looking for a nice long book for the winter months:
The Golden Notebook - D. Lessing (Ms. Lessing won the Nobel prize for literature last year I believe)
The Woman in White - W. Collins
The Hummingbird's Daughter - L. Alberto Urrea
I'm killing time 'til I can make a plausible escape at work today...can you tell?

I tried to read Hummingbird's Daughter - couldn't get through it. Not that means anything - Ellyn liked it.

I've always wanted to read Wilkie Collins - what about a novella, like The Frozen Deep?

I vote yes for the pumpkin pie.
